About The Client

Lighting Supply Guy is a service driven distributor serving business customers. LSG’s main clients are electronic contractors and property management companies looking to buy lamps and ballasts. Given the nature of business, LSG developed a custom order form that integrated with the previous (a.k.a. “legacy”) version of the website.

Approach / Work done

On the original Lighting Supply Guy website, the client created a custom wholesale order form configured for the individual needs of each client. Due to the tight integration with ERP and the way the form was implemented it could not be easily transferred to the new Shopify online store.  That led to the need to keep the old website up in running hence doubling maintenance costs and effort. Lighting Supply Guy team wanted to decommision the legacy website and replace the old form with a new one. The form was required to be directly integrated into the new Shopify website for a streamlined, consistent, and user-friendly experience.

  • Extensive business discovery;
  • Technical analysis and prototyping of multiple different approaches;
  • Proposing an elegant, low cost and low-maintenance technical solution based on Shopify metafields and CSV files to extend the data set available in Shopify;

A minimally invasive modular approach to the implementation minimized disruption, the level of quality assurance efforts, and re-used existing workflows as much as possible.

Project Results

Built user-friendly custom order form enabling mobile users to place orders directly from their smartphone. The form is directly integrated into Shopify catalog and custom pricing. Custom admin logic was built based on CSV file import, enabling non-technical users to manage bulk amounts of data with ease. New wholesale orders are now automatically imported into the ERP along with B2C orders which substantially reduced the burden on the customer service team.
